These past two summers, we have mentored younger kids in our community and it was truly an eye opening experience. Our goal was not just to help the children with their studies, but also to nurture their passion for learning. What we saw was amazing; with their newfound knowledge, the mentees would take the intiative to learn more on their own. It seems obvious enough that every child should have this same opportunity to expereince the impact of education. However, the current reality is far from that. It is incredibly difficult to build a stable life and earn for yourself without an education. Many young girls in not just India, but in many countries accross the world, do not have the privilege of attending school. In addition to decreasing their chances at leading an independent life, they are also missing on the chance to one day become a successful female icon who can proudly represent their country. Knowing this, we wanted to raise awareness about the importance of providing girls with an equal oppurtunity at learning. In addition, we have a tangible goal to fund a free girls school in India, where they will be taught vocational skills. Through this initiative we are aiming to help provide girls in India with similar opportunities to study and thrive in the professional world as we are so priviliged to be able to do in our community. We hope that we can contribute in allowing this mission to succeed at its very best.
Funding a free school in Punjab, India where girls will have a safe learning enviornment. They will have the oppurtunity to get an educations as well as learn vocational skills in order to prepare them for the professional world.
Organizing a book drive or book exchange to collect new reading materials for the students. Participants can choose to donate books they have outgrown or they can exchange books with someone else. This is a cost effective way to improve literacy skills.
We plan to create a pen pal system. Students from the United States can communicate with students in India. Not only will this allow them to practice their English in a realistic application, it will also allow them to build their social skills with others their own age.
